When activated the mechanism causes the chest to rise and fall simulating a gentle breathing motion, the motion is continuous until switched off. 
 

The 'breathing effect' with these mechanisms is a natural effect. They are quiet in use and the movement is gentle, like in a real baby at rest. . It is more pronounced when the baby is 'sleeping' on his/her tummy.
